Italy is renowned for 3 things. soccer, pizza and pasta.
Pasta is the generic term for a meal prepared from unleavened dough, water and flour. To add to the flavour, eggs and vegetables extracts are added.
Pizza is widely believed to have come from China and it was Marco Polo who first introduced the noodles to Italy. But no one has conclusive proof that the Italians were the first to make pizza.
There are two types of pasta – fresh and dried. Dried pasta made without eggs can be stored for up to two years under ideal conditions, while fresh pasta will keep for a few days in the fridge. Prior to eating the pasta is boiled in hot water. The pasta can be made into a tasty meal when spices, sauces, meat, cheese and cream are eaten together.
There are hundreds of different shapes of pasta with at least locally recognized names. As the different types of pasta are too numerous to mention I will just list a few below :
Farfalle, Lasagne, Spaghetti, Vermicelli,. Conchiglioni, Cannelloni,. Fusilli , Macaroni and Fettuccine The most popular ones are spaghetti and macaroni.
Italian pasta names often end with the masculine plural suffixes -ini, -elli, -illi, -etti or the feminine plurals – ine, -elle etc., all conveying the sense of “little”; or with -oni, -one, meaning “large”. Many other suffixes like – otti “largish” and -acci “rough”, “badly made” may occur too. All pasta type names are plural in Italian.
Homemade pasta is a pleasure that everyone should have an opportunity to enjoy and you will be able to do just with a pasta machine. Whether you decide on the manual version or the electric version, with the proper care of your machine, you should be able to enjoy pasta with either machine for a very long time.
Both of these can be purchased from the store
